Louis Browne

Formerly principal tenor with Sadler's Wells (now the English National Opera) and the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Louis has sung in all the world's leading venues and is one of a select number of Irish tenors enjoying such success this century. His radio and television performances include coast-to-coast link-ups throughout the United states.

Wherever he travels, the name Louis Browne is linked with the greatest of all Irish tenors, John McCormack, an inevitable comparison as he shares the same background and birthplace as McCormack - the Irish midland town of Athlone.

His career evolved from opera to concert, and his repertoire covers the same ground, ending triumphantly with his unparalleled mastery of Ireland's distinctive ballads.

"He is in the top bracket of singers"
Irish Independent

"Browne is an exception ... a voice equal to the great McCormack, the same crystal-clear diction and a repertoire from simple Irish ballads to classical arias."

Irish Times

"Browne is an Irish tenor in the tradition of the great John McCormack. He could hold his own with any tenor before the public, popular is pure and his head tones are something to hear and delight in. He produces a sensuous sound that can still bring a tear to the eye."
St. Petersburg Independent

"The highlight of the show was Louis Browne, an Irish tenor of the grand tradition. His listeners positively swooned as he went into "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" and wound up with "Danny Boy".
Robert Laurence, San Diego Union

"The singing chairman - Louis Browne, who has a truly remarkable tenor voice. His rendition of "Be My Love" - usually associated with the late Mario Lanza - is truly magnificent and in the final bars positively electrifying."
Ken J. Eastham, The Evening Gazette

"Tenor Louis Browne performed a rendition of "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen" and was greeted by deafening applause, forcing him to interrupt his act until the applause had died down."
Debra M. Gorham, The Morming Union

"Both Mr. Browne and Mr. McCormack share the same background. Louis Browne as Don Cesar scored a real personal triumph . he has an outstanding vocal range . his performance was equal to that of any operatic star."
Irish Independent

"Louis Browne has a most pleasant-sounding voice, smooth and unforced."

Daily Telegraph, London (English National Opera)

"Louis Browne was an excellent Tenor Soloist in the Kodaly, with the right mixture of declamation, passion and ritual. And how rare it is to hear a tenor with such power and quality at the very bottom of the range"
Irish Times

"His lyrical tone was ingratiating."
The Times, London
